In the news making headlines this morning, Court of Appeal has finally made a judgement on the long awaited appeal lodged by Mityana Women MP Joyce Bagala Ntwatwa to retain her seat which was being challenged by Minister Judith Nabakooba.

On 22 October last year, the high court in Mubende ruled in favor of Nabakooba and ordered fresh elections which Bagala challenged in the court of appeal. In the lower court, the lands minister accused the former NBS news manager of intimidating her agents, invalidation of her valid votes and also giving out pre ticked ballots to voters.

However, Nabakooba will have to wait for the next election to return to parliament after court of appeal confirmed Bagala as the duly elected women MP of Mityana district.

In the 2021 general elections, NRM’s Minister Nabakooba polled 48,322 votes against NUP’s Joyce Bagala’s Bagala 64,305 votes and the other candidate was Nabalisa Brenda who garnered 1515.

Bagala becomes the second NUP Mps to be confirmed by the court of appeal after Bukomansimbi North’s Christine Ndiwalana who was confirmed last month.

In other news from the court of appeal, a retrial has been ordered in the election petition case in which Bobi Wine’s elder brother Fred Nyanzi Ssentamu was challenging the election of Muhammed Nsereko in Kampala Central.
