Chaos surrounding the leading opposition outfit National Unity Platform will take centre stage as Moses Kibalama Nkonge’s NUP faction unveils news offices from Kabowa away from Kamwokya the known headquarters of Bobi Wine’s NUP faction.

Last month, we reported how Kibalama and other founding members of the National Unity and Reconciliation Party (NURP) that later turned into National Unity Platform convened a national delegates conference which saw many notable figures in Kamwokya releived of their party duties.

Among those fired by Kibalama was party spokesperson Joel Ssenyonyi who was replaced by Gideon Tugume who even addressed the media today as Kibalama’s faction unveiled the news offices. Party Secretary General David Lewis Rubongoya was also shown the exit and replaced by Simbwa Paul Kagombe. The only person retained was Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu alias Bobi Wine who was overthrown as the party president but appointed Secretary for foreign affairs.

The ever changing Moses Nkonge Kibalama would later write letters to the European Union seeking recognition as the New Party head, he also notified Byabakama’s Electoral Commission on the changes in the party which were effected immediately, we are yet to know what the Electoral Commission replied in regards to the same issue.

As the coup in NUP gained momentum, Kamwokya issued a statement where they labeled Kibalama and his group as crooks who shouldn’t be given attention. According to the statement that was released indicated that the Delegates Conference sits once in every five years to elect new leaders and therefore the Kibalama faction is an illegal outfit.

NUP’s Statement Regarding Take Over By Kibalama

Kibalama has been changing like a chameleon ever since he handed over the party to Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu in the months preceding to the 2021 general election which saw Bobi Wine as the party’s presidential candidate.

However, in what he termed as threats from state, he revealed how he had sold the party to Kamwokya and he needed it back since the later failed to observe the Memorandum of Understanding signed between Bobi Wine’s People and the National Unity Platform.

MOU Between NUP and People Power

This comes at time when some NUP members of parliament received cash labeled as a bribe and were given 48 hours by the party but it’s not yet clear whether they’ve taken it back or not. It’s also reported from the corridors of power that some NUP legislators have changed allegiance from Kamwokya to Kibalama’s faction now in Kabowa.
