ORDINARY LANGIS HAVE SPOKEN: Bad News For Betty Amongin As Aceng Is Voted Best Minister For 2023

This Thursday morning, the managers of Lira City-based Radio Unity dedicated a segment under their very popular morning show/program (called Odiko Alyet which means Hot Morning in Luo) for hundreds of their ordinary listeners to call in and name public officials who (in their view) stood out in the way they effectively excelled in the discharge of public duties entrusted to them.

It also related to the extent to which those same holders of public office used their respective offices to positively impact the life of ordinary people throughout Lango. Those voted upon included the three Museveni Ministers hailing from Lango namely Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng for Health, Betty Amongin for Gender and Hamson Obua who as Government Chief Whip in Parliament is at the rank of Cabinet Minister and indeed attends Cabinet meetings every Monday.

Under Ministers category, Aceng emerged victor with 43 callers zeroing in on her while Amongin and Obua had 3 voting for each one of them. The other categories of leaders were equally voted upon including the year’s best MPs, RDCs, the Districts LC5 Chairpersons and others.

Aceng was rang immediately by the radio presenters in the studios who broke the good news and gave her chance to say something about what the callers had just said about her. She thanked the Langis for the trust exhibited in her approach to services delivery and made it clear she was motivated to serve even better under the new year 2024.

Currently camped in her Lira City constituency, where she serves as Woman MP, Aceng has continued using this Christmas holiday to dedicate time to interact with different groups as should ordinarily be expected of any reasonable Member of Parliament. She is using this as an opportunity to directly communicate with her electors and opinion leaders in the community while at the same time getting instant feedback from them.

On Christmas day, the Health Minister went out and joined her people at Victory Outreach Ministries Church whereafter she proceeded to fellowship at Boroboro-based All Saints Church for the Anglicans. Then on Boxing Day, she camped at home in the morning and hosted more than 100 female leaders from the Catholic Church. Representing all the seven parishes making up Lira Catholic diocese, the ladies kept around and had lunch with their MP at her home in Lira City East Division’s Ireda Ward.

Later in the day, Aceng (whose 2nd term as Lira City Woman MP is controversially being challenged by Betty Amongin who is curiously abandoning her Oyam MP Seat) hosted over 400 Muslim women for a luncheon at Uganda Technical College where they freely interacted with her and gave feedback about what they think about the way she has led the Lira City constituency thus far.

She subsequently met those who have been supporting her through conventional and social media activism while amplifying her achievements thus far. Many of them she had personally never met and here was an opportunity for her to get to know them better and be able to directly say “thank you very much.” These were hosted inside her palatial residence in Ireda ward.

Then this very Thursday, Aceng met with all the different actors in the business community in Lira City including the big-name tycoons and ordinary traders doing small things in the market or even on the streets. The idea was to communicate to them and collect some feed back from them.

This Thursday engagement has equally been held at her spacious home in Ireda Ward. Some of the big name business persons were coordinated for Dr. Aceng by Dr. Chris Ongom (owner of Lira City’s only international school) who serves as the Uganda National Chamber of Commerce President for the entire Northern Uganda.
