Court heard that Asio, stationed at the 409 Brigade headquarters in Bondo Barracks, Arua District, was granted a two-week leave in January 2023 but failed to return.

Later in October, he was declared absent without official leave (AWOL).
However, Asio resurfaced the following year, in June 2024, after UPDF salaries were increased.

While delivering the sentence, Colonel Tukashaba reminded armed officers that service in the national Army demands discipline and sacrifice.

The now-former soldier was marched out of the 4th Division Quarter Guard by hundreds of his former colleagues in a symbolic dismissal ceremony.
