The Democratic Republic of Congo has been officially admitted into the East African Community (EAC) following a series of admission procedures which started last year on the request of the world’s wealthiest country to be admitted in the block.
Congo becomes the 7th member state to join the block which has been in existence since the late 1960s only to be subbotaged by war and other factors in the 1970s to the 1990s. The block is now on a renewed agenda and pushing for many unifying agendas to benefit citizens hailing from all the members states of Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, South Sudan and now Dr Congo.
DRC was admitted during the 19th Extra Ordinary Summit of the EAC Heads of State which was held online via hybrid video conferencing. All the heads of states supported the admission and welcomed DRC on board.
