According to Kampala Metropolitan Police deputy spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire, suspects—mostly between 17 and 23 years old—were apprehended for allegedly participating in robberies and attacks. Many posed as informal workers, such as bottle or dustbin collectors, to conceal their intentions before assaulting residents during odd hours.
Recovered during the operation were housebreaking tools like pilfers, knives, and testas. Police have since recorded statements and secured the items as evidence. The suspects remain in custody at Bwebajja and Lubowa police stations, awaiting further investigation and court proceedings.
Authorities have linked the arrests to a broader effort to contain rising street crime in Kampala, particularly following a series of violent robberies during political processions in late June. Police have urged continued public cooperation to support ongoing operations aimed at dismantling youth gang networks and improving urban safety.
