UNATU on The Receiving End For Ending Teachers’ Strike Without Deal

Uganda National Techers’ Union (UNATU) which is the umbrella body of all teachers across the whole country is currently on the receiving end for ending the 3 week teachers strike across the country without a convincing promise to enhance salaries of arts teachers.

UNATU bosses who have been vocal especially the Secretary General Filbert Baguma shocked those who have been standing in solidarity with the teachers when he announced they opted to end the strike even without penning a serious deal with government to have their salaries enhanced.

Arts teachers went to strike three weeks ago on 15th June 2022 protesting a discriminatory salary increment policy of Museveni government when it enhanced salaries of science teachers to UGX4m as their arts counterparts scramble for the crumbs.

Government’s position since the strike started has been, no money for arts teachers but the immediately needed science teachers will be sorted as soon as possible.

Following his announcement to end the strike of arts teachers, many have taken to social media to blast and thrown tantrums at UNATU’S Filbert Baguma and other leaders for betraying the teachers and engaging them in a strike they knew end in premium tears without a single deal. We have compiled some here below.
